Before moving on, let’s get one thing straight…AR has been misidentified for what it stands for. It’s meaning does not mean “Assault rifle” or “Automatic rifle.” The letters stand for ArmaLite Rifle(AR), the original designers of the gun.

Now, why does this matter? Because the National Rifle Association (NRA) estimates about eight million AR-15s, and its variations are in circulation. That’s why we decided to take on this beautiful big boys gun and dispel the rumors, and its terrible rap amongst non-gun enthusiasts. Due to the popularity of this so-called “little black rifle,” we agree that the “AR” should stand for “America’s Rifle.” It’s carried by at least 8 million American across the United States which of course includes the proud citizens of OKC.

AR 15

Famous for its modular components, versatile construction, and endless customization, this firearm has earned its reputation as “America’s rifle.” The AR-15 is a robust, lightweight semi-automatic rifle based on the military M-16 rifle and has become the most sought out tactical sporting rifle.

AR 10

The AR 10 is available in multiple calibers. What separates the AR10 from the AR15 are the larger calibers, such as the .308 Winchester and the 6.5mm Creedmoor. It’s used mainly for both big game hunting trips although it can be used for self or home defense. We at Savage Sooner do not recommend it for self or home defense due to its larger caliber and we don’t live in a Hollywood action movie. “This is not the Expendables”

AR 9

AR9 is an excellent weapon for effective home defense as it’s a 9mm AR pistol. 9mm bullets are available in a vast variety of options making the ammunition readily available and for specific needs. The AR 9 pistol operates as good as it looks, and ammo is far less expensive.

USES OF OUR CUSTOM AR

AR Rifles are used for target shooting, plinking, hunting, they are also used for personal defense, and, yes, even home defense. Yep, we said home defense. The leading factor is the gun itself as it’s lightweight and has lots of caliber choices that are effective against all types of criminals. The gun profile is often recognized by even the most “uneducated” gun person or novice. AR’s are best described as scary looking, military style firearms by most of the before mentioned “uneducated” people. However if you were to ask a soldier to carry these firearms into battle, they would refuse due to the fact that scary looking, military style doesn’t mean fully automatic firearm. The military carry fully automatic weapons due to battlefield conditions, AR’s are not fully automatic weapons no matter what you may have heard elsewhere. AR firearms are only full semi-automatic weapons(see what I did there). This means 1 round per trigger squeeze.

THE COST OF AN ARMALITE RIFLE: CUSTOM BUILD

AR’s can go for less than $1,000 in local gun shops or gun dealers in and around Oklahoma and Oklahoma City Metro area. Gun enthusiasts can also find several AR’s on ARMSLIST sites, used to list and sell guns. Although the custom AR, depending on your requirements, can cost in the thousands of dollars. Savage Sooner builds custom AR Rifles in price ranges that will fit just about any budget.

WHO CAN OWN A AR 9, AR 10, OR AR 15?

Here at Savage Sooner, we follow the guidelines and laws set forth by the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms(BATF) and the Federal Bureau of Investigations(FBI) to ensure that firearms end up in the hands of law abiding responsible firearm owners. We take pride in serving our community in a safe and respectable manner. We will never take shortcuts when it comes to firearms safety.

Four rules to firearms safety:

  1. Always assume every firearm is loaded
  2. Never let the muzzle cover anything your not willing to kill
  3. Keep your finger out of the trigger guard until your sights are on target
  4. Know your target, what between you and your target and what’s beyond

REASONS TO KEEP YOUR RIFLE CLEAN.

  • Diminished performance
  • Your rifle will jam when shooting should it start fouling
  • If the gun's moving parts wear, the gun will become loose
  • Reduced accuracy will occur as the consequence of pitting and fouling
  • Pitting occurs when the mechanical parts rust
  • The overall accuracy and efficiency of the firearm will be affected

MODERN SPORTING RIFLE FACTS

  • Tactical sporting rifles, often referred to as modern sporting rifles, are among the most popular firearms sold. Period.

  • The "AR" stands for ArmaLite rifle, and NOT for "assault rifle" or "automatic rifle."

  • AR-15-style rifles are NOT "assault weapons" or "assault rifles." An assault rifle is fully automatic. Automatic firearms have been restricted from civilian ownership. ● Some states have banned this category of semi-automatic firearms and have done so with very different definitions due to the politics of gun control.

  • Some states have banned this category of semi-automatic firearms and have done so with very different definitions due to the politics of gun control.

  • AR-15-style rifles can look like military rifles, such as the M-16. Still, by law, they function like other semi-automatic civilian sporting firearms, as they fire only one round with each squeeze of the trigger.

  • Versions of tactical sporting rifles are legal to own in most states, provided the purchaser passes the mandatory FBI background check required for all retail firearm purchasers.

  • Since America's founding, civilian sporting rifles have evolved along with military firearms. The modern sporting rifle follows that pattern.

  • These rifles' accuracy, reliability, ruggedness, and versatility serve target shooters and hunters well. They are true all-weather firearms.
  • Tactical sporting rifles are chambered in .22 LR, .223 (5.56 x 45mm), 6.8 SPC, .308, .450 Bushmaster and in many other calibers. Upper receivers for pistol calibers such as 9 mm, .40, and .45 are available. There are even .410 shotgun versions.

  • These rifles are used for many different types of hunting, from varmint to big game. And they're used for target shooting and in competitions.

  • AR-15-style rifles are no more powerful than other hunting rifles of the same caliber and, in most cases, are chambered in calibers less powerful than common big-game hunting cartridges like the .30-06 Springfield and .300 Win. Mag.

  • The AR-15 platform is modular. Owners like being able to affix different "uppers" (the barrel and chamber) to the "lower" (the grip, stock).

  • They have been sold to the American public since the 1960s.

  • They are commonly-owned, with more than 16 million tactical sporting rifles owned by civilians by 2018.

  • And they are a lot of fun to shoot!
